Successful Summer School in South Africa

From June 25 to July 8, 2017, the ETH Zurich World Food System Center run the first summer school within the framework of the DEVIL project in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The course entitled "Food Systems in Transition" brought together 25 participants from various disciplinary backgrounds and countries.

WFSC Executive Director Michelle Grant and Education Manager Jonna Cohen put together and intensive two-week program guiding the participants along the food value chain and offering numerous possibilities to interact with food system stakeholders and experts. DEVIL researchers Nina Buchmann, Bob Scholes and Luciana Soler were among the many contributors. Nina Buchmann led the session on “Climate Change and Biodiversity”. She was followed by Bob Scholes who talked about “Land Use Change and Food Security”. Luciana Soler led an interactive evening session on “Land Use Modelling and Food”.
